Have you ever had a picture taken...

... and you have no idea what you were doing or what you were thinking?

This is mine.

I'm so embarrassed. I think I had too much sugar, and, well, things got a bit out of control. Oopsie.

This is my First Birthday Cake!!!!

Nana asked me what I wanted on my cake. I didn't know all the different cakes you could have. But I LOVE Abby Cadabby... so I figured she could be on my cake. They did a good job!!!

See? Isn't Abby cute? She just moved to Sesame Street and is an awesome little fairy.

Nobody told me about the candle thing...

... so I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. So, I did what I always do... I look to either Mommy or Daddy and hope they know what to do. Since Mommy was holding me, Daddy looked at me and said, "You just blow out the candle... you can do it."

*sigh* They should give us directions for this stuff when we are born. This whole birthday thing is complicated. Why am I supposed to blow out the candle for anyway? Is this a Santa thing? Will he give me stuff for blowing out my candle? I'm sure there's an explanation for this.

This is me and Mommy blowing out the candle...

I figured since she and I went through this whole "me being born" thing together, we would blow out my candle together to celebrate.

It was so sticky!

And I didn't have fork. To be honest, I don't know what to do with a fork anyway.

My cake was yummy! It was sweeter than applesauce, and a little funny tasting, but overall, I like cake.

I probably shouldn't have eaten on the floor...

But if you can't eat off the floor on your birthday... when can you?

I don't mention Poppy very often on this blog.

But I just thought I would mention that we have a lot of fun together. We spend every Wednesday together and he reads to me, and feeds me, and makes sure I'm a clean little kid. Tomorrow is Wednesday, so I thought I would officially call it Poppy Day.

Have a Happy Poppy Day!

Ohmigosh!!!! Ohmigosh!!!!

I did it!!! Wooo hooo!!!
Okay... here's what happened. Last night Mommy and Daddy were watchin' tv and I decided to go in the kitchen. They have some shelves of stuff and I sometimes crawl over there and pull the stuff off the shelves, particularly the boxes of Jell-O. So, I scooted myself over there, and pulled myself up like I always do. And I hear,

"Sadie, come back, pumpkin..."

"Honey, get away from the shelf..."

I don't know why the spirit moved me... but I let go of the shelf, thought about going back to my crawling... but then I thought, "That's silly. Why don't I just WALK back?"

I let go of the shelf, turned to Mommy and Daddy and took three big steps. Well, the parentals were SO excited, they stood up and applauded for, like, ten minutes! Then I started clapping because they were clapping and then we were making a ton of noise together. Then I crawled back to my little piano. Maybe I try this walking thing more often. I feel so triumphant...

I read Good Night Moon all the time...

What do you mean you've never heard of it? It's only a classic!

It's about a room, with stuff in it, and you say good night to all the stuff. Then you are supposed to go to sleep. But I usually skip that part. I read it over and over again. And I point out all the stuff, and I put off the whole sleeping thing as long as possible. Even when I'm really tired. My crib isn't nearly as exciting as the family room.

It kinda drives Mom and Dad crazy when they just want to watch somethin' on TV.

Wheee!!!!

I couldn't wait to slop around in puddles outside, so while we were at the National Portrait Gallery, I took off my shoes and socks and played for a little bit with Daddy.

The water was a little cold.

I might look tiny compared to Daddy...

... but I went to the doctor this morning and I'm in the 95th percentile for height and 75th percentile for weight! That means there are only a few other babies my age that are bigger and taller than me.

I'm HUGE!

But it wasn't a perfect day. I also had to get some shots, and I don't like those. Mommy said I was very brave. She also said that if it was Uncle Bryce, they would have to chase him around the office for him to get his shots. I did get a Tazmanian Devil band-aid, so that was kinda cool.

By the way, this picture was taken in the National Portrait Gallery. They have important pictures and doodles there.

What do you mean birthdays only come once a year?

That's it? Now I have to wait a WHOLE YEAR for another birthday?

Okay... but it was really nice getting all of that attention. This photo shows me looking all pretty in my birthday dress. What you don't see are about 8 other people lookin' at me and taken pictures. There were a lot of flashes!

But this is me... Sadie Angelica Joynes... Age 1.

Mommy asked for my best "Jane Austen" look...

This is what I gave her. By the way, empire waistlines are sooooo comfy!
